Please see the invite to the artist talk next Tuesday 7 June 2016, 6 PM. This is a rare occasion to see artist David Ward discussing his sculptures, paintings and installations. His work has been shown internationally including Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge, Soane’s Museum, London, Barbican Centre, London; Sackler Museum, Harvard University Art Museums; Museum of Classical Archaeology, University of Cambridge; Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol; John Hansard Gallery, Southampton amongst others. His work will be of particular interest to students working with sculpture, light installations and work in response to collections and museums.

Artist Talk:

David Ward, sculptor, painter, film maker

Tuesday 7 June 2016, 6 PM

Born in 1951, David Ward attended Wolverhampton College of Art (1968 – 69) and Winchester School of Art where he studied painting (1969 – 73).

His work includes painting, photography, light, sound, dance and performance.

He has made numerous collaborations with choreographers, composers, architects and other artists and has made both permanent and temporary commissions in the public realm.

Ward has been Artist in Residence at King’s College, Cambridge (1991), Harvard University (1994), Durham Cathedral (1997 – 98) and was a Research Fellow at the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds (1995).

He has curated exhibitions, film programmes and events and writes occasionally on the work of other artists.

After giving lectures at many art schools in Britain in the late 1970‘s, Ward has taught at a number of institutions, including Goldsmiths’ College, London (1987-95), Glasgow School of Art (1995 – 97), the Architectural Association, London (1998 – 2005) and at the Department of Architecture, Westminster University, London (1998 – 2005).

Most recent solo exhibitions include David Ward, Slow Time shown at the John Hansard Gallery, Southampton in 2008 and at Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge in 2009 and RINK – a drawing floor, shown at P3, University of Westminster in November 2009.

He presented his first collection of poems, The Glass Hammock, in a performance at the New Art Centre, Roche Court in 2012 and his performance, The Camera Lucida Variations, was held at QUAD, Derby in 2013.
